: Val Morton (left) and Roy Sundstrom (right) posing with massive cedar stump being cleared from Morton Ranch, Lot 7106, East Demars, 1950s. Inscription on rear: 'Saddle Mountain in the West/Clearing some of 7106 South of Slewiskin Crick[sic]1950tys/D25U7549 V M [Val Morton] Power Monkey cat and land owner. T.D. 15. Roy Sundstrom, owner operator. There were bigger cedars stumps one was 28 feet 6 inches around above two spring board holes they broke while removing them, with powder (tons of it) as did the manny[sic]cottonwoods firs and tamaracks, with big taproot.' Further notes from Val Morton: 'The biggest card that I knew of was over west, across the start of the Columbia River narrows. It had a huge fish hawk's nest. Hundreds of years old. It died in late 1960s. Unfortunately, I know of no existing picture when the tree was standing. I think there are some photos after it was felled and bucked.'
