Mits Arikado, later of Nakusp, posing in uniform, World War II. Notes from Zoë Dhur (daughter of Nancy Wetterstrom): 'Mitzi was of Japanese origin. He was an orphan who was adopted by a white Canadian family, and he did not learn to speak Japanese. Hew was the only Japanese origin person in the Army during World War II—and much persecuted because of his Japanese background. We loved him very much but have funny stories to tell about him. He boarded with us [Nancy & Nels Wetterstrom], slept in the back summer room—our playroom, the "in-door" woodshed. His area was curtained off with blanket curtains. Our big house was already full of boarders—the waitress from Mum's restaurant, the Bluebird Cafe.' Alternate notes: 'Mits boarded with Nancy & Nels Wetterstrom after the war. He was in the Canadian Army. Married a red-head. Lived in Trail and Calgary.'
