H.W. Stones' general store, Burton, ca. 1965-1967. Accompanying notes from Clark A. Marshall: '...this building was the first store of its kind built in Burton during the Gold Rush Days of 1896 to 98, by Frank Bourne, who was also a store keeper in Nakusp later on. When the rush was over this building was taken over by Y.C.R. Logging Co. when they moved into the area to log the giant cedars in the valley. When they moved out to their big camp by Caribou Creek, Bob Steven, who was their woods boss, took over the building and his wife then operated it as a store and also obtained the Post Office. She in turn sold out to David Gash of Calgary around 1921 and he in turn sold out to H.W. Stones around 1923.'
