Hamling Box Lake pioneers celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Nakusp April 23, 1945. The Legion Hall was filled to capacity by friends. They arrived directly from England in 1902. They cleared and cultivated the land at the end of Box Lake and many trophies attested to the quality of their fine farm products. As early day road foreman he helped construct the first road from Box Lake to Nakusp.'
