Inscription on rear from Fred Vipond of Nakusp, who fought here with the Canadian Corps: 'Another ruined Village we passed on our way to Vimy Ridge. Fritz used gas here, when the French held this part of the line. He killed many of the civil population, including women & children. F.V.'
